TEDxDelft 2012 | Performer: Nynke Tromp – disrupting democracy

,

Nynke Tromp works as a design researcher at the department of Industrial Design, Delft University of Technology and social designer at KVD reframing in Amsterdam. In both positions, she works on the social implications of design. Nynke is also member of ‘Redesigning Politics’, a creative think tank aiming for redesigning thinking, institutes, structures and interaction in the field of politics.

Nynke is intrigued by how products can change behavior without people being aware of it. In her view, this implicit influence does not only imply a serious responsibility for designers, it also offers a powerful means to support desired behavior change. In her research she aims to develop the knowledge for designers to design this implicit influence in order to facilitate pro-social behavior. This knowledge allows designers to contribute positively in counteracting the pressing social problems we face today, like obesity, depletion of resources, or immigration issues.

To put her knowledge into practice, Nynke works part-time as a social designer at design agency KVD reframing. She has developed products for social challenges like organ donation, political engagement of citizens, and recovery from psychosis.
